The
college library organised Reading Week celeberations (P N Panicker
Remembrance) at Mother Frenanda Riva Auditorium on 25th June 2015.
The programme commenced with a prayer song by Divya of I B Com.Pooja Shankumar of 1st BA Literature welcomed the gathering
and gave an introduction on reading week. Dr.
Chithra N R, Head of the Department of Hindi, gave an introductory
speech on the purpose of celeberating reading week and mentioned
about the world known personalities who made contributions to the
world and the role of reading in their lives. She payed homage to P. N Panicker, who is known as the
Father of Library movement in Kerala and also mentioned about the
importance of books and reading in a person's life. She encouraged
the students to read books and become knowledgeable and responsible
people in the society.Ms. Chitra S,
Librarian, spoke on library as a venue, highlighting the activities
of library and the ways of exploring the resources available. Sr.
Pushpa, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Chemistry gave valuable
suggestions to the students on the difference that reading can make
in their life. Anjitha Sebastian of I Chemistry and Nila B of I Maths
gave reviews of the books ' The story of my life' by Helen Keller and
ABCD by Ravindra Kaliya. Joanne
and Chandana of II Maths were congratulated for their effort in
library shelf rectification done during April 2015. They were given
an additional library card for the coming academic year. Best user of
library award meant for the teaching staff was bagged by Dr. Sushila
Kuruvila, Head of the Dept. of Botany. The college principal, Dr. Sr.
Janat Augustine, gave away the prizes. Another highlight of the event
was the contribution of books worth Rs. 10000, purely academic in
nature and of high use to the students, by the Department of history
to the college library. Dr. Sr. Janat Augustine, the college
principal, received the books from Dr. Divya T, Head of the Dept. Of
History and handed it over to the librarian, Ms. Chitra S. The
principal officially announced the launch of Readers Club, which will
provide a platform for the students to discuss and exchange ideas on
the books of their interest. She also congratulated the teachers of
the Department of History for their initiative and motivated the
students to enrich their reading culture. The event concluded with
thanksgiving by Shilpa of I Maths.
